Our prenatal class teaches you everything you need to know about having and caring for your baby.
Excited to meet your baby but nervous about birth and what comes after? Concerned that you won’t know what to do when labor starts? Or how to cope with the sensations of labor? Do you want to know what your options are?
You’re in the right place!
Birth, in all of its flavours, is an intense and beautiful experience that you will never forget. Our goal is for you to come away from birth feeling powerful, confident and excited to share your birth story. We help get you there by making sure you are informed and prepared to navigate both the expected and unexpected.
Our prenatal class is:
We are passionate about teaching you up-to-date evidence-based information on birth and baby care in a clear way. Learning the facts will help inform your decisions. Knowledge is power!
ALL ABOUT OPTIONS
You can’t make informed choices if you don’t know your options, that’s why we offer this course! We talk about all the different ways to birth and parent your baby. Importantly we also cover how to advocate for your wishes.
PRACTICAL LABOR COPING TOOLS
As doulas we help people find coping tools that work for them. In this class we will practice breathing techniques, positions, some hands-on stuff, relaxation and more, so that when labor hits you’ll be able to ride the waves.
ENGAGING & FUN
We offer refreshing ways to learn without being lectured to. Filled with easy to digest practical information and engaging activities, this course uses tried and tested methods to help you absorb the information. After all, a tool is no good if you don’t have it with you!
We cover ALL of your options with zero judgement. There are enough people telling pregnant folks what to do. We trust that you know what is best for you and your baby.
This isn’t your grandma’s childbirth education. Let’s talk about the things that are on your mind: sex after birth, will I poop pushing out my baby, living in a postpartum body and more.
What you get in our prenatal class:
In keeping with social distancing, our group prenatal class is now virtual. Our comprehensive prenatal education is taught over 4 sessions of two hours. What people are saying
While the labour wasn’t easy, we felt very prepared and comfortable throughout the process, knowing about everything that was to come, and were especially grateful that you prepared us so well for taking care of baby and breastfeeding.Jaclyn K
Jenny and Heather are both amazing, compassionate, full of joy, experienced, passionate and their information and help was invaluable! We learned a lot from them and they helped us prepare better for the actual birth and for what came after (part that I was not really focusing on before).Ioana F
Prenatal classes with Heather were essential in preparing me for my baby’s arrival. I read books on the topic prior to the sessions, and I imagined the classes would be much like what we see on TV. This was not the case. Heather’s scientific background, clear examples and infinite patience were admirable and helped me feel confident about this once-in-a-lifetime experience.Marija P
Meet your teachers
Heather Collins is a true renaissance woman who teaches from a unique place as a certified birth doula, parent and scientist with a PhD in Biology. Don’t worry, she distills her knowledge of birth and baby care into clear concepts, practical tools and interactive exercises to help you understand your options and alleviate anxiety. Her fascination and excitement about the intricacies of pregnancy and birth are contagious. This enthusiasm is anchored to her focus on evidence-based care, a commitment she honours by furthering her own education at every opportunity. She also values the intuitive nature of birth and parenting, having experienced it herself, and wants to help people explore their inner parent through this course.
Jenny Gold is a natural storyteller. Her “choose your own adventure” approach to childbirth education encourages individuals to customize their experience of care by exploring options interactively. Jenny’s background as a yoga instructor makes her very comfortable guiding you through breathing and relaxation exercises. Her parenting of both humans and pets (she never has fewer than 2 kids and 2 dogs running around) make her uniquely qualified to address the messy, the marvelous, and the gritty side of pregnancy, birth, and the newborn stage. She looks forward to sharing her knowledge with equal parts humour and sensitivity.
